a reflection, by Myrna Perez

A deep black, a velvet cloak
A shroud of protection;
Here I am safe
Here I am no one.
The darkness envelops me
My visage unseen by eyes
Unfriendly and piercing.

Pulling it close, I know
That no harm can come.
No pain enter in my
Quiet, soft, dark world.
But in such, the light
Around me is disguised:
The night is all my own.
